“A Prayer For Humility”

February 7, 2019

Father, we want to daily dress ourselves in humility, lest we walk in pride rather than servanthood. As God’s chosen people, we want to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Help us to bear with those whom we have grievance against. Help us to forgive even as You forgive us. And over all these virtues help us to put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity so that the body of Christ is united and You are well-pleased with us. Amen.

Prayer adapted from Colossians 3:12-14

“A Prayer For Standing Firm”

February 6, 2019

Father, we want to stand firm in Your will, maturing in our faith, and we desire full assurance that You will lead us in the paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake. Just like Epaphras who wrestled in prayer for his brothers and sisters in the faith, help us to wrestle in prayer for our loved ones, and our brothers and sisters in the faith who wage war against the enemy. Our intercessory prayers are not waging war against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world. How reassuring that You have the ultimate authority to intervene and give us victory in these ongoing struggles with good and evil. Amen.

“A Prayer For Being Faithful, Fruitful And Fervent”

February 5, 2019

Father, just as Paul is giving thanks to You for the Colossian believers regarding their faithful walk with Jesus and their love for all Your people, we give thanks for our brothers and sisters in our local congregation, our community and throughout the world. We give thanks to You for the gospel that is bearing fruit in their lives and growing throughout the whole world. How good it is to know that there will always be a remnant who do not bow to Baal, but remain faithful, fruitful, and fervent in their walk with You. May I always be counted among them. Amen.

“A Prayer Recognizing All Gifts”

February 4, 2019

Father, we recognize and thank You that little is much when You are in it. Your grace is measured out to us in the gifts You develop in our lives. Sometimes we bemoan the gift (or seeming lack of gifts) we have in comparison with others who are more prominent or admired by others. Help us not to rate the gifts You bestow, for we want to receive from You that which You have for us, for You are the Giver of all good things. Anything we accomplish in this life is a result of Your empowering and enabling us to carry it out, and we do all for Your glory in the name of Jesus. Amen.

“A Prayer For Focused Outrage”

February 1, 2019

Father, there are numerous subject matters that are troubling to the believer and can even cause distress and outrage as darkness continues to spread throughout our land. What a blessing to know that the darkness of sin cannot overcome the light of Truth revealed through Jesus who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. But we, as believers, must be very careful that our distress and even outrage at times leads us to a faithful witness even as Paul demonstrated in Athens. Help us not to distort, dilute, or digress from Your Biblical instruction. We ask that those walking in darkness will see the light of Christ shining through us. It is in Jesus’ name that we pray. Amen.

“A Prayer Acknowledging God’s Sustaining Power”

January 31, 2019

Father, You sustain all things by Your powerful Word and through Your sovereign control. The natural order of Your creation is the means by which we live day after day, year after year. Just as there are variables in the seasons there are variables in our lives as we walk this pilgrimage on earth. There are bright, clear days in which we feel on top of the world, and there are dark, cold days when we feel our world will soon come to a halt. But we are encouraged as we look to Your powerful Word that reminds us You are our loving God who sustains us in the variables of our daily circumstances. Because of that we can trust You even in the extremes of life. We thank You in the powerful name of Jesus who is Your exact representation on earth. Amen.

“A Prayer For Assurance During Unplanned Journeys”

January 30, 2019

Father, when we as believers choose to walk the narrow path of righteousness, we don’t know where it will lead us. But we do know that we never walk alone and that You are there to guide us through every detour we encounter along the way. We might see them as detours that slow us down or require us to rescript the tour we planned for our life’s journey. But You use detours for Your greater purpose to strengthen our faith, to bring us to our knees in prayer, and to help us empathize with others who are hurting. It’s one thing to theoretically tell others that we trust You no matter what, but it is far more effective when we can experientially tell others our sufficiency is in Christ. We pray for those who are beginning a new journey, one they did not map out for themselves, that they will find that You are all-sufficient to meet their every need and that You guide them every step of the way, even their mis-step, for You uphold us with Your righteous right hand. Thank You that You replace worry and fear with trust and assurance. Amen.

“A Prayer For Humility”

January 29, 2019

Father, we know that none of us are completely humble, for we are clothed in these mortal, fallible bodies. But we do know that Jesus is the model of One completely humble in His humanity and divinity. He did not consider equality with You, our Father, something to be grasped but took on His personhood as a man and became obedient to death on the cross. We look to Him as the supreme example of humility and obedience. As we clothe ourselves in Your righteousness we can overcome the pride that is ever before us. We recognize that no good thing can come from us, but all that is good comes from You. Remind us daily that the attitude of gratitude is the antidote for feelings of pride. When we acknowledge that everything we have and all that we are is due to Your merciful blessings we are humbled and grateful to You, the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Amen.

“A Prayer For Confidence In Divine Providence”

January 28, 2019

Father, in Your hands are the very depths of the earth and the tips of the mountain peaks. The sea is Yours, for You made it and Your hands formed the dry land. It is at Your beckoning that the sea can be turned to dry land or dry land turned to sea. When the enemy comes against us like a flood, Your Spirit will lift up a standard against him. We never want our hearts to harden toward You, like the Egyptians and later the Israelites. Keep us faithful and trusting You and Your providential care, in the good times and in the trying times, in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

“A Prayer To Repent”

January 25, 2019

Father, the theme of the great banquet parable calls to mind another parable where You challenged the crowd by saying, “The first shall be last and the last shall be first.” You are the Bread of Heaven that nurtures our spiritual hunger and the Living Water that quenches our eternal thirst! Since Your supply is unending there is still room because You are not willing that any should perish but that all would come to repentance. We especially pray for wayward loved ones today, particularly those who have abandoned their spiritual heritage. Father, lead them back to their spiritual roots where there is always a place at the table. We’re so thankful You’re in the restoration business where hearts are mended and families reunited for Your glory. We thank You in advance for answered prayer. Amen.
